Spring and summer are on their way. |
As I flip through the pages I can smell the dirt, feel the sun and taste the sugar snap peas. I dog ear the corners of the pages as I go. I mentally lay out my garden as I flip each page. I wonder, do I need an addition to my nine by fourteen raised garden box? I could use some extra space to spread out my determinate canning tomato plants. That may give me room to grow some spaghetti squash. As my husband passes by I mention that I may need to add on to the front of my garden this spring. He nods his head and says "mmmmhhhhhh". I think that is a yes?
I look out the window and imagine sitting on the warm deck, shoes off, with my dog Cinnamon. The bees buzzing as we munch on green beans and cherry tomatoes. I snap back to reality when my husband asks, "What are you looking at?" I say with a sigh, "My garden" and I go back to flipping pages.
I love getting Burpee catalogues in January and February. I look forward to the colors of spring and the warmth of summer!
I was inspired to write this post after reading Linda Baie's post Looking out the window. You can read her post here http://www.teacherdance.org/2015/02/solc-one-looking-out-window.html
Thanks Linda!
When it's cold and dreary, there is nothing better than browsing through a seed catalog dreaming of the fresh tastes that will grow. Sure wish it was tomato season right now!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this! I grew up with my mom and dad gardening and as you described sitting on your warm deck, goose bumps of warmth spread on my arms and I can recall a beautiful garden with fresh juicy tomatoes! I can't wait now for the gardening season! Thank you for sharing this! :)

ReplyDeleteWelcome Marie,
ReplyDeleteI don't get turned on by plants but I did as I read your Slice. I'll bet Elise went crazy when she read this.
I can relate to your colors because all around us, it pure white. ENOUGH!!!
Marie, your passion for gardening is evident in every word! You had me with the words munching on cherry tomatoes. I love how you were pulled by the catalog into summer!
ReplyDeleteOk, new summer goal, start gardening! Will you be my mentor! What an inspiring post!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to come over as soon as the snow melts and start planning out my garden for me! Your enthusiasm is contagious!
